Community Management©: a new approach for local development
The new demand of development for rural areas and peripheral territories, caused by increasing globalization, requires new solutions and new tools to support growth strategies in economy and safeguard policies for local culture and the environment.
With regard to tourist activities in recent years many of the local experiences were lead by methods that come from an “industrial concept” of tourism: especially the solutions of destination management which were based on a “big numbers” vision.

A project to stay connected with the past
The history of the Grand Saint Bernard Pass is very long. People that live in the neighbouring region have learned to share this ancient and mystical place in a very fair way: the Hospice is the symbol of the friendship that has joined Swiss and Italian communities for a long time. The Comunità Montana Grand Combin and the Association pour l’Aménagement de la region de Martigny, decided to develop together an international project which aims to increase the tourist attraction of the historical site, concentrating on the cultural and spiritual values.

BTW Biosphére Transfrontalière Val d’Hérens – Valpelline
The project would help the creation of a Biosphere Reserve between Valais and Aosta Valley, including a large area in Val d’Hérens and Valpelline. Through a strong cooperation and following the idea proposed by the Swiss municipalities, several stakeholders, including public bodies and private companies, are working together to promote the candidacy towards Man and Biosphere UNESCO program. BTW project begins with a phase of research by the partners, to appreciate the quality of the natural environment.

Sustainable Villages
Within the Espace Mont Blanc program (www.espace-mont-blanc.com) is “Villages Durables – Sustainable Villages” an initiative which aims to sustain a more efficient use of energy in mountain areas. Several partners, located in Aosta Valley (Italy) and Haute Savoie (France), with the participation of Swiss communities, are working together to encourage the use of “smart ecologically friendly technology" in the daily activities of families and companies.
